DONATION TO DEPRIVED INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES

Updated: Jul 9

We are particularly concerned about the lack of portable water in rural communities of the North Tongu district of the Volta Region. Since the birth of these communities, the inhabitants share the same source of water with domestic animals like the cattle.

These communities rely on water from ponds, stagnant waters and hand dug wells which are used by both human and domestic animals.

The people are generally at the mercy of their creator since the cleanliness of such sources of water is not assured, they are prone to all kinds of waterborne diseases such as cholera, diarrhea, typhoid, gastroenteritis, worm infections among others.

We were not surprised when the community leaders told us that, ‘’ we are dying, our people cannot survive, all we do now is mourning and burying our dead ‘’ on our first day visit to these communities.

In providing solution to this major problem, we are looking at providing two mechanized boreholes for the communities. In anticipation of the mechanized borehole, we’ve made it a mandate to randomly provide sachet water to the inhabitants. On the 1st of February 2024, we’ve made a donation of a hundred bags of sachet water to one of the communities. On the 6th of April 2024, we made another donation of a hundred bags of sachet water with used clothes, curtains, bedsheets, pillows, used shoes and bags, some household tools and used electrical devices like the radio.

We’re grateful to our local and international partners who are working so hard to help restore healthy living in these communities.
